Ship to Ship Lightering
This course is intended for Mooring
Masters/Deck Officers. The training focuses on essential ship handling issues
& practices with emphasis on ship-ship interaction and lightering
operations taking into account the latest OCIMF guidelines & recommendations.
Training exercises are conducted on Full Mission Bridge Simulator covering
different Ship-to-Ship (STS) maneuvers (mooring and unmooring) and transfer
operations.
COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
The course
aims to provide ship handling principles directed on ship-ship interaction and
good operating practices on STS transfer procedures in accordance to
established industry guidelines & safety recommendations to ensure sound
and efficient operations through all the key stages of lightering maneuvers
& operations.
COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:
Instructions and
practical exercises deal with the following subject and training areas:
I. Ship to Ship Transfer Guide (CDI / ICS / OCIMF / SIGTTO)
- Operational Safety Checklists, Principles, Conditions & Requirements, Safety, Communications, Operational Preparations before Manoeuvring, Manoeuvring & Mooring, Procedures Alongside, Unmooring, Equipment, Emergencies
II. STS Operation (Simulation Activities /
Exercises):
- The use and control of main engine, rudders and thrusters.
- Ship to ship interaction
- Navigation & manoeuvring to a STBL in port and at sea, and docking & undocking in various conditions.
- Communication & STS Instructions
- Mooring / Unmooring Operations
- The use of thrusters
- Towing SS/STBL
