Onboard Behavioral Assessment
This course is primarily intended for Management Level Deck and Engine Officers with direct or associated responsibility in conducting in-service appraisal of competence of seafarers onboard. The course mainly deals with the non-technical skills dimension of competency and the different behavioral competency domains and their behavioral indicators relevant for shipboard operations.
The course takes into
account the guidelines issued by OCIMF & INTERTANKO in the information
paper “Behavioural Competency Assessment and Verification for Vessel
Operators”.
COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
The course aims
to provide applied knowledge and practical understanding of the essential
competency domains with respect to work-related behavior & attitude and the
methods for monitoring and assessing such competencies towards instilling a
positive safety culture and promoting a safe work environment onboard ship.
Upon completion of the
course, participants should be able to:
- Explain the importance of the non-technical skills dimension of competency in performing safe operations.
- Describe the different competency domains forming the behavioral competency framework relevant for shipboard operations.
- Identify the behavioral indicators to be adopted and avoided that are associated with various competency elements.
- Discuss the requirements, method and scheme in conducting behavioral competency assessment.
