Onboard Assessment Course (IMO Model Course 1.30)
This course is primarily intended for
shipboard officers conducting in-service assessment of competence of a seafarer
on board. These would usually comprise senior shipboard officers (management
level) but may also be suitable for shipboard personnel at operational level or
experienced shore-based instructors with sufficient onboard expertise.
The course mainly deals with the techniques
of conducting the assessment and developing a performance improvement plan.
Thus, around half of the training is allocated to application exercises.
The course is based on IMO Model Course
1.30 and duly approved by Norwegian Maritime Authority.
COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
The course
aims to provide knowledge and skills that shall enable participants to support
the administration, supervision and monitoring training and assessment of
seafarer competence in accordance with the provisions of Section A-I/6 of the
STCW Code.
Those who shall successfully complete the
training course should be capable of undertaking all of the responsibilities
expected of assessors within their field of expertise. They will be
familiarized with the concepts generally taken into account when developing a
suitable assessment package for a particular type of ship.
Upon completion of the course, participants
should be able to:
- apply the international provisions concerning the training and assessment of officers and ratings on board ships;
- apply the international provisions in the context of national law;
- determine effective assessment methodologies; and
- organize, administer and conduct onboard assessment.
