NSA - Helmsmanship
The course is intended for Deck Cadets. The theoretical part deals with introductory lessons and instruction on helmsman duties & responsibilities and ship’s steering gear system, whereas the practical part consists of bridge simulator exercises covering helm orders and steering techniques.
COURSE AIMS / OBJECTIVES
The course aims to provide knowledge and fundamental ability in handling the helm of the ship and general steering capabilities to effectively carry out helm duties and orders.

- Reliving the Helm and Helmsman on Watch - Steering Equipment
- Use of Magnetic and Gyro Compasses

- Elements of Manual Steering - Steering Techniques
- General Steering Techniques
- Kinds of Steering
- Change-over from automatic pilot to hand steering (and vice versa)
Entry Requirement / Target Group:
The course is open to deck cadets of NSA Cadet Program.
