This e-learning course in intended for deck & engine officers and crew. The course, in general, provides familiarization with modern Emergency Towing Systems (ETS) and understanding on when and how to use and operate the system in a safe and efficient way. It deals with the purpose and use of ETS, components of the system, principles of operations, and basic maintenance procedure.
COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
After successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe the emergency towing operation
- Explain the purpose of the emergency towing system
- Describe when and where to use the emergency towing system
- Recognize the SOLAS requirements regarding emergency towing procedures
- Describe the forward and aft emergency towing system, components, and arrangements
- Identify when should an emergency towing system be readily available
- Familiarize with Aker Pusnes emergency towing system
- Describe the mounting sites of Aker Pusnes emergency towing system
- Familiarize with the safe deployment emergency and retrieval procedure of emergency towing
- Familiarize with the test procedure for a correct and safe deployment of the pick-up gear and towing wire
- Familiarize with the correct procedure of packing the pick-up gear container
- Identify the safety considerations in using an emergency towing system
- Familiarize with the operation of forward emergency towing system with OCIMF Stopper and Smit Bracket
- Familiarize with the 6-month, 12-month, and 2-year maintenance procedures of emergency towing system
- Identify troubleshooting procedures and tools to solve problems in the emergency towing system
