Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters (NMA-Accredited)
This course provides training to navigation
officers to operate ships in polar waters and to address those additional
provisions deemed necessary for consideration beyond existing requirements of
the SOLAS and MARPOL Conventions, in order to take into account the climatic
conditions of polar waters and to meet appropriate standards of maritime safety
and pollution prevention.
The course is designed to meet the
Mandatory minimum STCW requirements for the training and qualifications of
masters and deck officers on ships operating in polar waters, specifically as
these apply to Tables A-V/4-1 "Specification of minimum standard of
competence in Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters".
COURSE AIMS:
This course aims to meet the
mandatory minimum requirements for Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar
Waters, in accordance with the provisions of Section A-V/4 Paragraph 1, Table
A-V/4-1 of the STCW Code.
Hence, those who shall successfully complete this course should be able gain the relevant knowledge, understanding and proficiency to achieve the following competencies:
- Contribute to safe operation of vessels operating in polar waters
- Monitor and ensure compliance with legislative requirements
- Apply safe working practices, respond to emergencies
- Ensure compliance with pollution-prevention requirements and prevent environmental hazards

The simulator exercises shall focus on
Maneuvering in Ice and Icebreaker Assistance
Entry Requirement / Target Group:
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Holders of certificate
as Master, chief mate or officer in charge of a navigation watch
