This course is intended for those who have already been issued a DPO Certificate from the Nautical Institute (NI) but are unable to revalidate their DPO certificate due to insufficient DP sea time.
The coverage of the course adheres with the standards & requirements established in Section F of NI – Certification and Accreditation Standard Volume 1.
Coverage / Program Focus
The overall course aim is to update the DPOs with the latest rules and regulations, position references and sensors, known DP incidents and lessons learned.
At the end of the course, the candidate should be able to:
• acquire knowledge of the latest rules and regulations
• acquire knowledge of the latest developments within sensors and PRS
• acquire knowledge of the latest relevant DP incidents and why they occurred
• recognize the various alarm, warning and information messages
• carry out operational planning, risk assessment and hazard identification tasks
• set up the DP system for a particular task/operation
• decide on courses of action because of systems failure

Method
The conduct of the course delivery primarily employs lecture-presentation and series of practical exercises. The training will be split equally between theory and simulation
exercises.
Entry Requirement / Target Group
The minimum entry requirement is a DPO certificate issued by the NI.
Certificate
In order to be awarded a certificate of completion, the trainee must pass the online theoretical examination and practical assessment.
On successful completion of the course, the trainee will receive a course completion certificate, and an entry will be made in the appropriate logbook.
