» NSA Philippines Cadet Program
Norwegian Shipowners' Association (NSA) Philippines Cadet Program is the most outstanding and promising program of the Association of Shipowners' Training and Education Project (ASO-ATEP), the objective of which is to develop young and competent Filipino seafarers through scholarship grants and best maritime education awarded to qualified applicants.
To meet this objective, the program has tied up with four (4) different maritime academies: Philippine Merchant Marine Academy; John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation - Bacolod; DMMA College of Southern Philippines; and University of Cebu - Lapu Lapu and Mandaue; together we are working hand in hand to achieve the competencies needed from Filipino seafarers through quality education.
The Norwegian Shipowners' Association (NSA) hopes the Cadet Program may serve as a model or instrument in the promotion of quality education in the Philippines in compliance with the STCW '95 requirements. As a model, it has introduced significant changes related to the enhancement of the maritime educational system in the Philippines. These changes have contributed to a new outlook and confidence among concerned parties. The program has proved that the Filipino seafarers, given the chance and appropriate resources, could definitely excel and eventually prove that they have the potential to become qualified and competent in the maritime industry.
In 2013, the program has sponsored more than 5,000 cadets graduated with Bachelors Degree in Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering respectively.
